Synopsis: Phashunista will be the definitive on-line fashion social network, allowing fashion lovers to strut their stuff and vie for the crown of the ultimate trend-setting hipster.

Reach For The Starz
by: David Hamilton, Digital Goldfish
Synopsis: allows users to tailor their very own pop act and take control of their career. Whether it is a solo diva or the latest punk band, users can create unique characters complete with their own distinct look. The project will let users chart their rise to success – from their first rehearsals and gigs to publicity stunts and public appearances – to eventual superstardom…or bankruptcy.

Torontopia

Synopsis: Torontopia is a geodirectory of online information about Toronto, accessible by PCs and mobile devices.

Where'd You Get That?

Synopsis: Where'd You Get That? is a street fashion podcast where we hunt down fashionably dressed strangers and ask them where they shop. The videos and photos will be posted on ChickAdvisor so users can vote for their favorite looks.

Your Green News

Synopsis: Your Green News is about how people can contribute their “Green” news stories to media, by enabling users to source and edit footage into well-produced short presentations that can make it onto high traffic websites, TV news shows and be made accessible as downloads for cell phones.

OVERVIEW

U-PITCH is the opportunity for up to three companies to win cash prizes for the best concept for a user generated content vehicle in the genres of fashion, music or news & information.

We are looking for fresh and original ideas for content to harness the power of the audience, to make them participants and players in the medium.

  • All qualified submissions will be assessed by a jury of industry experts. Finalists will be announced on the ICE 2007 website and will compete before a panel of judges and the audience comprised of ICE 2007 delegates at the event.
  • If chosen as a finalist, entrants will each have three minutes to present their pitch. They will then face up to five minutes of questions from the jury.
  • The submissions will be assessed and graded by the panel (according to the criteria detailed below) and the three chosen winners will be announced at a special presentation at ICE 2007.

 

All intellectual property presented as part of the competition will remain the property of its owners.You will be required to allow the New Media Business Alliance and CHUM Limited the use of certain materials including audio, video and photos for promotional purposes.

 

PRIZES

Grand Prize   $ 5000.
2nd Prize   $ 3000.
3rd Prize   $ 2000.
Total Prize Monies awarded   $ 10,000.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & TERMS

  • The competition is open to the general industry.
  • Submissions are accepted free of charge.
  • Each company may submit up to three (3) pitch proposals.
  • Only one finalist will be chosen per company to compete at ICE 2007.
  • After the submission deadline, up to 5 finalists will be selected by the U-PITCH jury to compete live on the main stage at ICE 2007 March 21st and 22nd ,2007. The exact time of the live pitch competition is subject to change.
  • If the entrant is not already registered for ICE 2007, they will be given the choice of a free pass for the U-PITCH session or a discounted Delegate pass to the ICE 2007 event.
  • After the pitch at ICE 2007, the U-PITCH jury will deliberate and select up to three competitiors to receive cash awards. The three winning pitches will be announced at ICE 2007.
  • The decision of the jury is final.
  • Employees of NMBA, CHUM and their immediate families are not eligible to enter.

 

HOW TO APPLY - (Application now closed)

In order to apply, entrants must submit an application form that includes a short written summary of their idea as well as background information on their company. Application form must be received by ICE 2007 before 12 midnight ET March 9th, 2007.

Entrants are also STRONGLY encouraged to prepare a short demonstration, pitch and/or presentation using social networking and personal publishing tools (such as video, podcasts or blogs) as part of your submission, EMAILED TO:

Finalists must be able to attend the ICE 2007 event in order to qualify to participate in the live pitch off competition for the prizes and must vouch that they are the sole owner of their concept and release all rights for the promotional use
of any submitted materials, exempting the contest organizers from any claims or prosecution should any dispute or legal actions should arise from themselves or other parties in connection with their submission.

Winners will be selected based on a point system:

Quality and originality of concept   X/10
User-generated ease of execution*   X/10
Business / Revenue strategy   X/5
Quality of pitch performance   X/5

*for use of user-generated /social network tools

Winners will have the opportunity to have a development meeting with CHUM executive Maria Hale.

Submissions are free of charge. Entrants must submit a brief company bio and project summary online, and are encouraged to email elevator pitch/demo to: info@nmba.ca as part of the submission.
